Revelations with Photographer Jim Herrington

Thursday, November 12, 2009
Social Hour: 6:00 – 7:00pm | Presentation starts at 7:00pm

It only takes the viewer a few seconds to understand why photographer Jim Herrington is not just a portrait photographer, he is a portrait artist. It’s also quite evident that as a photographer, Jim Herrington isn’t overly concerned with “the rules” of lighting instead concerning himself with simply making the great shot. He is an expert at finding the light, without having to create the light. His work, which is displayed mostly in black and white, also reveals to us that he is a photographer who’s work says as much if not more about the person as is does the photographer and his style. You get a sense that Herrington has a true connection with his subject and in return they have truly revealed a part of themselves to his camera’s lens. Sometimes that context is figurative, other times, including his B&W nudes, it’s quite literal. His work ranges from portraits of those who are well known to us all, to those who were simply well known to Jim.

Jim’s bio and resume spans from his humble beginnings as a young photographer’s assistant here in Charlotte, NC to an accomplished photographer with a client list that reads like a who’s who of the recording and publishing industry. Jim has always been the guy that loved photography, but also was known to hang out at the local rock climbing shop where he loved to dream about climbing. It was probably the inner courage that’s required of rock climbers that lead Jim to take his leap of faith and trust in his own skills to go out and live and work as a professional photographer in larger cities like Nashville, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, New York, and Berlin.

Our location for the evening is as eclectic as Jim’s work. Belle Acre’s County Club and Restaurant is a Charlotte landmark on South Blvd. A uniquely private club / restaurant who’s walls are covered with autographs, photography, paintings, and even one of Rick Flair’s sequin and rhinestone encrusted wrestling robes. And for one night, they have graciously opened the doors to the APA photography community. It seems fitting that this location was chosen, because it’s exactly the type of place that Jim would pick to do a shoot.

Drinks and dinner are available for purchase. So come out and enjoy an evening with Jim Herrington.
