The best way to become a Pro is to learn from a Pro.

APA’s mission is to help educate the next generation of visual communicators. In that effort, APA Charlotte is hosting a full day assistant workshop, Saturday, April 14 – 9:30am – 4pm complete with a panel of professional photographers and featured guest, Mike Isler, who is one of the most sought after assistant and digital techs in NYC, one of the most demanding photography markets in the world.

The day will begin with a talented panel of Professional Photographers who will discuss what they look for in an assistant, and cover subjects like set etiquette, rates, items an assistant should bring, attire, difference between 1st assistant, 2nd assistant, digital tech, and much more. With an open format and plenty of time for questions, this is sure to be a great opportunity for aspiring photographers to learn what working pro’s are looking for in an assistant and to hear the many stories, trials and tribulations of how they got their start and tips on what to do or not to do.

After a break for Lunch, which will be provided by APA, Mike Isler will lead a discussion about what assistants need to know and will utilize equipment provided by Tall Rooster Photography Rentals, a local Charlotte Rental House, for some hands on demonstrations of what an assistants duties might be on a typical shoot.

About Mike Isler
Mike graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in 2005 and after interning with Vincent Laforet, quickly secured the full time position of First Assistant. He quickly gained experience, became a digital tech, and with his specialization in aerial production has become a sought after asset for many photographers and projects.

Mike works closely with some of the leading industry brands including Tenba, Profoto, and Sekonic in providing them product feedback and has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.

All attendees will come away with a greater understanding of what it takes to be a photographers assistant and help give them the confidence to seek assisting jobs.

By assisting and building relationships with working pro’s, young aspiring photographers gain a better and more comprehensive perspective of what it takes to be a professional photographer and build a lasting career.

BONUS!! Raffle Prizes! All attendees will be automatically entered into our workshop raffle! Prizes include: Tether Tools Gift Cards, Photo Mechanic 1-Year License, Vanguard Camera Bag, and more!
